MAPPING OF MACROMYCETES IN NORWAY
FACT SHEET: Trichaptum laricinum (P. Karst.) Ryvarden
written by Maria Nunez
Description: Basidiocarps annual, pileate to effused-reflexed, elongated, single basidiocarps up to 3 cm long and 2 cm wide, upper surface gray, hirsute, lower furface purplish, drying brown, with radial lamellae, context purplish-brown, up to 1 mm thick.
Distribution: Holartic in the boreal forests of Europe, Asia, and North America. In Norway known from the continental Sout-East, and Troms and Finmark.
Ecology: Northern alpine-continental species in old-growth coniferous forests, it develops basidiocarps at the base of fairly thin trunks (less than 35 cm in diameter), still with attached bark. T. laricinum is a rapid invader and aggressive decomposer of spruce stands bordering swampy areas, either growing alone or associated with Fomitopsis rosea. It is also common on thick Pinus logs in old, continental pine forests.
Remarks: Included in the Norwegian Red list. Status of threat: V+ (conservation demanding).
