Abstract: 4 fig. 1 append. ["Molecular phylogenies based on the ITS-LSU nrDNA and part of the -tubulin region were used to investigate the position of Neuropogon in Usnea s. lat. Bayesian inference and maximum parsimony strongly supported the monophyly of Neuropogon." A new generic classification is proposed, with four genera: Usnea, Neuropogon, Eumitria, and Dolichousnea. New: Dolichousnea (Y. Ohmura) stat. nov., D. longissima (Ach.) comb. nov., D. trichodeoides (Vainio) comb. nov., D. diffracta (Vainio) comb. nov., Eumitria pectinata (Taylor) comb. nov.]
