Anthracothecium is narrowly defined in the sense of its type. The remainder of Anthracothecium and the hitherto recognized genera Melanotheca, Mycopyrenula, Parmentaria, Pleurotheliopsis, and Pyrenastrum are synonymized with Pyrenula."
