[Transect studies and water retention and loss experiments, primarily with Ramalina complanata and Roccella babingtonii, show that the coastal species (Roccella) is adapted to moister conditions. Peak photosynthesis for this taxon is about 70% thallus saturation while the peak for Ramalina complanata was about 30-40% thallus saturation.]
