["In addition the 10 traditionally accepted genera were tested equally together with fourteen other recognizable species groups in the Teloschistaceae to test their significance and if possible suggest an alternative taxonomy. The results from the analysis strongly support my original hypothesis that many of the traditionally accepted genera are poorly defined paraphyletic groups. Several of the recognized species groups within the genus Caloplaca appeared as even better defined monophyletic groups than many of the traditionally accepted genera. It might not even be possible to present a better system because of the slow evolutionary change within the order."]
